Vištytis Regional Park, founded in 1992, protects the highest hills in Lithuania which is not typical of the Suvalkija plains in the Suvalkai morainic plateau. The hills rise as much as 285 m above sea level and are located on the border of three countries - Lithuania, Poland and Russia. The area of the park is 10.1 thousand ha, it has many valuable landscape complexes from a natural point of view, plants recorded in the red book, a large variety of mammals, reptiles and amphibians, Šilelis educational trail, observation decks, rest areas are equipped. In November of 2015, the new Vištytis RP visitor center opened its doors to visitors, where an impressive exposition presents the treasures of the Vištytis Regional Park and helps visitors get to know the hilly Suvalkija.
