On the coast of Vištytis lake, in the Šilelis forest, fresh water gushes from a spring, which people call Saint. The old people say that before World War I, a poor peasant dreamed St. Virgin Mary, who asked him to place a cross at the spring. The poor man didn't have the necessary tools, but when he had the same dream the third time, he went to a neighbor and with his help built the cross. People believed that the power of God was here, they started visiting the cross, splashing themselves with spring water, believing that the water cures various ailments, especially eye diseases. Believing in the powers of the Saint Spring, people come from the farthest corners to splash with water and build little crosses on the hill near the spring.
