The palace and park complex in Dowspuda was created in 1820-1823 at the command of count Ludwik Michał Pac who was a general of the Polish and Napoleon's armies. Built in the English neo-Gothic style, the palace was designed by an Italian architect Henryk Marconi. A team of other Italian artists were engaged in providing it with equipment and furniture and decorating its interior. The building was to become a mausoleum of the Pac family. It housed works of art and antique weapons. The palace was surrounded by a park in the romantic style. What remains of the palace is its portico, cellars and the so-called stork tower. They are surrounded by a fragment of the old park.
Guardhouse in Dowspuda
The guardhouse was built in the 1820s in the neo-Gothic style as a part of the palace and park complex of count L.M. Pac. It is a C-shaped, brick building and the best preserved object of the complex. It is situated at a lime tree avenue leading to the ruins of the palace. Originally it probably served as an administration office of the estate, then an agricultural school was located in it. Restored in 2015, now it serves as a place to stay, also used for cultural events and festivities. A model of the palace of Pac is displayed in it.
